Vic: Video shows police car ramming man with knife

A knife-wielding man who was rammed with a police patrol car will appear in Bendigo
Magistrates Court today charged with threatening to kill.

And Victoria Police will investigate why officers used a patrol car to ram the man
and end a siege near Bendigo.

A home video, aired on Channel Nine, shows the police car accelerate into the man as
he yelled and pointed at officers outside a house in Goodenia Avenue, Kangaroo Flat, in
central Victoria.

The impact catapulted the man over the bonnet, allowing at least six officers to arrest him.

The video appears to contradict a police statement which said police drove into the
38-year-old after he ran at a police officer outside the house.

It shows the man, holding a knife, was standing still in his front yard and pointing
and yelling at an officer when the car accelerated.

Police spokeswoman ELISE SULLIVAN says the Ethical Standards Department will investigate
the incident.
